SCOPE OF practice

As a NAMA Certifed Ayurvedic Practitioner

As a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, I am trained in the traditional system of Ayurveda to support long-term wellness, prevent imbalance, and guide individuals toward greater mind-body harmony. My work is grounded in individualized care, natural healing principles, and the ethical standards set by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA).

1. Assessment and Diagnosis (Ayurvedic Framework)

I conduct a comprehensive intake process rooted in Ayurvedic methodology to understand each person’s unique constitution and current state of imbalance:

  • Prakruti Analysis: Assessing your natural constitution (prakruti) to understand your inherent physical, mental, and emotional tendencies.

  • Health History Intake: Gathering information about your past and present health to identify patterns and contributing factors.

  • Dosha and Dhatu Assessment: Evaluating the balance of the Doshas (vital energies) and Dhatus (body tissues).

  • Vikruti Identification: Determining the nature of any imbalance (Vikruti) affecting your current health.

2. Interventions and Recommendations

Based on your assessment, I offer personalized recommendations to help restore balance and support well-being:

  • Tailored Dietary Guidance: Recommending food choices that align with your constitution and address current imbalances, using the principles of food energetics.

  • Lifestyle Modifications: Suggesting supportive routines, sleep hygiene, movement, and other lifestyle practices.

  • Herbal Support: Offering guidance on Ayurvedic herbs and formulas based on their traditional properties (Dravyaguna).

  • Yoga and Meditation: Incorporating gentle movement and mental practices to support clarity, calm, and strength.

  • Simple Ayurvedic Bodywork: When appropriate, providing basic therapies such as oil massage (abhyanga), marma therapy or self-care body treatments to aid relaxation and detoxification.

  • Support Across Life Stages: Recommending diet (ahara), lifestyle (vihar), herbs (dravya), and treatments (chikitsa) to manage pre-natal, natal, and postpartum health and pathologies, as well as care for newborns.

3. Education and Ongoing Support

A key part of my role is to empower you with tools and knowledge for lifelong wellness:

  • Ayurvedic Education: Teaching the foundational principles of Ayurveda so you can make informed, nourishing choices.

  • Mind-Body Connection: Helping you understand the interplay between physical health, mental clarity, and emotional balance.

  • Support for Common Conditions: Offering holistic strategies for concerns such as stress, anxiety, digestive discomfort, and fatigue.

  • Collaborative Referrals: Referring you to medical doctors or licensed professionals when a condition requires advanced or acute care.

4. Ethics and Client Care

I adhere to high ethical standards in every client relationship:

  • Confidentiality: Your personal information is always protected.

  • Respect for Choice: You have the right to accept, decline, or seek alternative care at any point.

  • Integrity and Transparency: I share accurate information and stay within the bounds of Ayurvedic practice.

5. Legal Scope in the U.S.

In the United States, Ayurvedic practitioners are not licensed medical professionals. As such:

  • I do not diagnose or treat disease in the Western medical sense.

  • I do not prescribe pharmaceutical medications.

  • My services are intended to complement—not replace—conventional or licensed medical care.

Instead, my work focuses on:

  • Preventative wellness, using time-tested Ayurvedic approaches.

  • Lifestyle-based care, to promote balance and resilience.

  • Collaboration with licensed providers, when appropriate, to support a truly holistic approach.
